Devastation

In stark contrast to the glitz and glamour of the Royal Wedding (yes, I did watch the whole thing, but I taped it.  I’m not getting up at 4 am for anyone – even royalty!) is the devastation wreaked by the recent tornadoes in the south.

These pictures were taken by a young lady who loaded up her car with water and other supplies and drove to the remains of the tiny town of Phil Campbell, Alabama.  This girl is standing in front of the remains of her family home.

The destruction is both random and complete, and the remnants of people’s lives are laid bare.

Adding to the difficulty of the rescue efforts, many of the agencies who respond to these emergencies have been severely affected too.

This man is standing next to his uncle’s wheelchair.  His uncle’s body was found about two feet away.

It seems like our world has been rocked by natural disasters lately.  Earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and tornadoes.  The awesome force of nature has been demonstrated again and again.

It certainly is a reminder to me that we humans are not in charge of this planet we call home.

I personally am very thankful that my family and loved ones have been spared from this destruction.

And my heart goes out to those involved.
