There is a herd of Rocky Mountain elk about 15 miles down the road. Originally this area was populated by Roosevelt Elk, but they were hunted out in the late 1800’s. These were transplanted from the herd at Yellowstone National Park. We see them often when we are on our way “downriver.” We have seen up to 45 of them in this field at one time.
The bull is very elusive and doesn’t come out too often – he doesn’t pose very well either.
Though there is a nice field designated for them with a viewing area, you often see them across the road in a farm pasture.
They are a lot easier to see in the winter against the background of snow.
We see deer on our place all the time.
We enjoy watching them. As long as they don’t eat the garden!
